Maryland does not use one single statewide percentage cap for every ordinary private residential rental; local jurisdictions can impose additional rent protections. Real Property § 8-209 requires advance written notice before a rent increase: at least 90 days for tenancies longer than one month, 60 days for tenancies longer than one week but not more than one month, and 7 or 21 days for tenancies of one week or less depending on whether there is a written lease. Local law may require additional notice or protections.
